  1. Melanie Cater is using metaphors in the poem to state a hidden message in what the whole thing means. In the third line it calls the 'common' humming bird as casual and small as just a green seed. In lines six and seven it mentions "...the hook God dangles from heaven into this uncertain sea", is a comparison of us looking for answers in an uncertain world.

  2. Melanie Cater used metaphor in her poem "water to sky" as a way to tell her message. She is compairing it to something that her imagination see.she trying to find a hidden message in life and maybe there isnt a hummingbird its just the hair and how it sounds to her.It might sound like a humming bird when it's just been raining for past 7 days. She said "I think it must have swallowed the hook dog dangles into the sea" that bird isnt close to the sea it's just the rain and what her imagination pictures it as.

  3. I may be off here, but, I think the hummingbird is the water, and the bruise in it's throat, the pollution scattering throughout the modern world. The sky, a helpless father, hoping, pleading, for change.
(I realize it sounds dark, but that's what I got.)

  4. The poem by Melanie Carter "Water to Sky" means to me that the 'hummingbird' is a sign of something. when she said 'My father must be playing this creature', line 13 i though is her father gone above and she thinks its him giving her a 'sign'? Also does the 'seven days' mean the time of something important happening? it could really mean anything....i truley can't tell.

  5. In the poem by Melanie Carter "Water To Sky" there could be comparison of many this. Melanie Carter is trying to compared things that she see. So people could see the meaning of what in it. Hummingbird represented something big to our world. In the second line it says, " The air outside the window" and I'm thinking about the outside world.

  6. Inside the poem "Water to Sky" i believe that Melanie using metaphor buy trying to compare what she see. She is trying to show that there is meaning to the thing she see. & i believe she is right everything inside life has a meaning to it. That hummingbird is represents something big to her.But it truely can have different meaning because different people believe different things.

  8. "water to sky" In my opinion I belive melanie is trying to state that everyone has a mind of its own.and shouldn't judge others.but even thou no one is perfect everyone has a good and bad side and its your choice to decide wether or not you want to deal with them for who they are or someone there not.but everyone is different.

  9. in the poem "Water to Sky" the author is trying to say that every person is diffrent and have their own oppinions on life and the choices they make. and it is also about not judgeing a book by its cover. she is also comparing what she sees to the world around her.

  10. Inside the peom "Water to Sky" Melanie was using the metaphor's to describe what she saw. There was a meaning behind everything she said. what i think she ment with the hidden meanings is that everything has a connection to life. that is what Melanie means with her metaphors in the "Water to Sky" poem.

  13. Melanie Cater is trying to say that everyone has their own personality. Everybody is who their or themselves make them. People have the right to say what they want, everyone has a mind of their own, dont judge people. that is what i belive she is trying to say.

  14. The poem seems to be explaning that everyone is special in the very own way. Our life is not limited to what is around us. Then she may also be describing what she sees around her. This poem has many different interpretations, to be completely honest. This is what I think of Melanie's poem.

  15. i think that the poem is saying that everyone is special in their own way. that no matter what anyone does or says to them, they still believe in theirselfs. They are special because maybe they can do things that most people cant . They may achieve with their dreams without anyone putting them down. Even if they are diffrent that doesnt mean that they should get judged because of that.

  16. I think that what Melanie Carter is comparing how a caught fish plucks the fishing line when it is suspended in the air, by its quick movements to how the hummingbird quickly moves its wings and jolts from here to there in a matter of seconds plucking God's "fishing line" reeling it in closer to its death every second. Once it is reeled in, and is in God's grasp it has reached its end. Just like when a person is fishing they catch a fish, they reel it in, and once they have it, they kill it and it reaches its end.
